An attempt to save my team

"Screech"

Once again, my robot was malfunctioning. I routinely hosted VEX Robotics meet-ups with my group of four. The goal of building the fastest robot was in sight. Our project was going smoothly, with a substantial amount of progress each week, but attaching the wires from the motor to the brain of our robot was a different story.

Connecting the wire to the motor was a hiccup as parts surrounded the motor, and our fingers were too thick to reach inside. Additionally, one wire broke, as it got entangled in our tires. My group members felt demoralized: they planned on leaving. In a last-minute savior, I show my group the result of perseverance. I narrated the story of King Bruce and the Spider to my group. The story showed how King Bruce defeated an opposing army after countless attempts. This message showed a real example of what persisting can accomplish. Hope filled everybody's hearts as they interpreted the story's moral: never give up. We disassembled a portion of our robot to easily place the wire in the motor and re-assembled our robot.

Our robot was finally up and running. We felt on top of the world. Although our group was able to successfully tackle this tricky problem, I noticed how one's morale can be drastically lifted by storytelling. What can one achieve if he puts his mind to it? How you can be like King Bruce.
