Basketball
I always aspired to be a basketball player but felt discouraged after a few game injuries. With encouraging aspirations from my dad, I started playing during school. After many months, I concluded that I was ready for the sixth-grade county team.
At 'tryouts,' I realized I needed to be taller for basketball. I was slow, and with no strategy, I knew I had no chance of making the team. My dad signed me up for advanced basketball training. My running speed and agility on defense became noticeably more robust. I practiced maneuvering my defenders and 'finishing' with ease.
I improved vastly after a year of grueling gym training and at least 15 hours of practice per week. The following year, I felt prepared. From swiftly shooting 'layups' to 'blocking' my opponents, I knew this would be a walk in the park. Even when faced with a taller player, I stayed unfazed. With my coach's advice, I aggressively called for a 'screen' to counter my defender. Fearlessly, I dashed straight to the rim and scored.
Making the county team thrilled me, but looking back at my determination and resilience had me ecstatic. I finally achieved my aspirations by quickly dismantling the defense and scoring after a full year of practice.
