Time management
Group projects are important because they enhance communication and listening skills. I have gone through many group projects throughout seventh grade and learned to incorporate my companion's ideas. I learned that to have a good presentation, I have to be respectful, meet regularly with my group, and set deadlines.
During 'Language Arts' class, my teacher assigned my class a group project on analyzing the poem Eldorado. My teacher put us in groups of two and informed us we would be presenting in two days. I strongly wanted to implement our poem's literal and fictionary meaning in a visual, whereas my partner preferred an essay on the explication. We were debating, and other groups started to notice our conflict. With limited time, I decided we could read his essay as a speech while holding my visualization.
On the presentation day, my group member and I took turns reading paragraphs from our essay and holding our visualization. My excellent grade boosted my confidence, but I learned that the power of collaborating is unmatchable. The experience helped me improve my teamwork skills because I realized that listening is the most essential part of group work. In future presentations, I always accepted my peer's ideas. Forcing ideas into presentations will stop group members from contributing or lead to conflict. Being able to adapt to different settings and swiftly construct solutions to any task makes me an ideal candidate for TJ. At TJ, I will always take a hard work and collaborative approach to help me thrive in the eighth-period activity, Science Bowl.
